The City of Gainesville just announced major adjustments to the RTS bus system, and it’s leaving many UF students and locals wondering how they’ll get around town.

What’s Been Changing

Budget constraints and rising operating costs have forced RTS to cut routes and scale back services:

  • No more holiday service (Veterans Day, Black Friday, Christmas Eve).
  • Reduced Paratransit service — now limited to ¾ mile from fixed routes.
  • Route 25 to Gainesville Regional Airport ends January 3, 2025.
  • UF is restructuring multiple campus routes (122, 125, 150, 1) to save on student transportation funds.
In short, fewer buses. Longer waits. Less convenience.

The Ripple Effect

For years, students relied on RTS for easy commutes to campus and work. Now, some routes are gone and others overcrowded. Many are spending 30+ minutes waiting for buses that used to run every 10.

Why Now’s the Time to “Own Your Ride”

When public transit becomes unpredictable, freedom and reliability matter more than ever. That’s where scooters shine.

1. Be Your Own Schedule

No waiting. No missed stops. Just grab your keys and go.

2. Save Big

A 49cc scooter gets 80–100 mpg and costs a fraction of owning a car—no insurance required in Florida, no parking headaches, and minimal maintenance.

3. Built for Gainesville

Campus, Midtown, and downtown are all within scooter range. With RTS routes shrinking, scooters give you a fast, efficient way to zip across town.
