FAQs for Used Scooter Buyers
Is buying a used scooter a good direction to go?
Hey friends! Look… there is always more risk when buying a used scooter. What we’ve done at New Scooters 4 Less is eliminate as much of that risk as possible. How do we do that?
- We sell used scooters that we know were well-maintained by their previous owners. Most of the used scooters you see on our site were originally purchased from and serviced at NS4L!
- We inspect everything! Every used scooter we sell has been through a complete certification process by our service technicians to ensure that any concerns are addressed. Additionally, each used scooter goes through a complete tune-up (fluid flushes, brake checks and replacements if needed, battery checks and replacements if needed, new air filter, new spark plug, and more)!
- We turn down just as many scooters as we accept into our scooter buyback/consignment program. If we are not confident in the used scooter because of its condition, mileage, or the scooter is simply a brand we don’t trust, we won’t accept it (or buy it back).
What are the major things to consider when deciding between a used scooter or a new scooter?
- Budget. This is the most significant consideration for most. If you want to save more money upfront, buying used is a great option. With that said, buying new obviously gives you a fresh set of wheels and puts you in control of the maintenance and condition right up front. Want more of your money back when it’s time to sell? Buy new and take care of your ride.
- Length of Time Needed. Are you a freshman student who needs transportation for all 4+ years of school? A new scooter or a higher-end used scooter is probably a better direction to go. Do you only have a semester or two left but have finally just “had it!”? We feel you. A used option is totally fine.
- Warranty. Although we offer extended warranties on our used inventory and always provide a 30-day warranty on used scooters in case there are any little hiccups, new scooters will definitely give you longer warranty options. Most new scooters come with at least a 1-year parts and labor warranty, and others offer up to 3 years!
- Condition and Mileage. You can tell whether most scooters were taken care of at a glance. If it looks new, it was likely well taken care of. If the paint is flaking and it looks weathered, usually the opposite is true. Additionally, consider the mileage. The higher the mileage, the more you should expect to invest some money into maintenance. From experience, 1,000 – 1,200 miles per year in Gainesville is the average for a motor scooter. So, if a used scooter we are selling is 3 years old but only has 1,000 miles, this is a good sign. We would typically expect this scooter to have 3,000 miles or more.

I won't be in Gainesville until later, can I reserve a used scooter now and have you hold it?
